$FIL : SOLSTICE UPGRADE ON OCTOBER 19 — FILECOIN IS CHANGING HOW BLOCK REWARDS ARE DISTRIBUTED

Filecoin’s network version 29 upgrade, codenamed Solstice, is scheduled for October 19, 2026, at approximately 12:59 UTC.

The upgrade will activate at epoch 6,470,279.

Binance confirmed today that $FIL deposits and withdrawals on the Filecoin network will be temporarily suspended starting at 11:59 UTC. Trading will remain unaffected.

But the technical changes are more important than the exchange maintenance.

Solstice introduces FIP-0118, fundamentally restructuring Filecoin’s incentive system.

Three major changes:

1. The existing Filecoin Plus (Fil+) datacap allocation mechanism will be deprecated. Newly onboarded storage sectors will automatically receive 10× quality-adjusted power.
2. Block rewards will be divided between consensus participants, registered service orchestrators, and a burn mechanism.
3. The service reward allocation can increase when verified Filecoin Pay transaction volume reaches predefined thresholds.

Importantly, this changes the distribution of existing block reward issuance rather than automatically increasing total issuance.

The objective is to connect network incentives more directly with measurable demand for storage services.

However, redirecting rewards toward service development does not guarantee increased $FIL demand or price appreciation.

The relevant metrics after activation will include Filecoin Pay settlement volume, storage service adoption, reward distribution, and actual token burning.

Upgrade: scheduled and officially confirmed.

Successful activation: pending.

Long-term economic impact: still needs to be measured.
