Elon Musk has shared his ambitious vision for Terafab, his next major venture in semiconductor manufacturing — and made a surprisingly candid admission.
“I don't know how to make chips, to be clear. I have no idea how to make chips, but we'll figure it out. I had no idea how to make cars or rockets as well.”
Despite having no prior experience in chip manufacturing, Musk is confident that his team can master the technology, just as they did with Tesla’s electric vehicles and SpaceX’s rockets.
He went even further, stating:
“I think probably we'll figure out how to make chips better than anyone. Honestly, I'd be disappointed if we didn't.”
Terafab represents Musk’s ambition to expand into advanced chip production, potentially supporting the enormous computing demands of artificial intelligence, robotics, and future space-based infrastructure.
The challenge is enormous, but Musk has repeatedly pursued industries where he initially lacked direct experience — and built companies that reshaped them.
