Trezor is cleaning house after supply chain scares.
Starting 2027, they're cutting ties with some resellers. No new stock for affected partners post-announcement, but they can dump existing inventory through Black Friday.
Why? Two major incidents:
1. ShipMonk breach hit 81K customers - names, emails, addresses leaked. Prime phishing material.
2. Ledger found a hardware implant in a device sold via CryptoBilis (SEA reseller). The implant steals your 24-word seed phrase during setup and transmits it over LTE via embedded eSIM. Brutal.
On-chain analyst Specter estimates losses could exceed $86M from the Ledger incident alone.
Trezor's response: Tighter partner requirements, stricter checks on sourcing and handling. They assessed each market individually to ensure customers can still buy legit devices.
CCO Danny Sanders' message to cut partners was surprisingly human - acknowledging the revenue hit for small businesses.
Bottom line: Hardware wallet supply chains are under attack. If you're buying a cold wallet, verify the source. Check holograms. Never trust a device that's been out of your sight.
The $86M lesson: Your seed phrase security is only as strong as your weakest supply chain link.
