AI agents are emerging as a major driver of transaction activity on the XRP Ledger (XRPL), according to data from t54.ai. The figures point to growing use of the network for automated, machine-to-machine payments tied to $XRP and Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin.

Daily settlements top 600,000

XRP Ledger's ripple:native recorded more than 600,000 daily settlements around the turn of September and October, with peaks of up to 700,000, based on the t54.ai data. The network has 169 merchants operating on it, and total transaction volume tracked by the platform has exceeded 13.94 million.

The dashboard is run by t54 and reflects what it specifically tracks. The hub's figures cover what t54 labs specifically tracks, not every transaction on the broader XRP Ledger. The numbers therefore describe activity routed through registered payment facilitators rather than the full ledger.

Heurist Inference Router leads the tracked applications. The distributed inference network has processed 9,973,942 transactions, followed by AI search engine AskSurf (863,012), computing network Heurist Mesh (512,623), operating system LucyOS (400,663) and fintech project ClawBank (137,836).

What is driving the activity

Much of the activity runs on x402, a payment standard built around the HTTP 402 Payment Required status code. t54.ai launched an x402 facilitator on the XRP Ledger that lets AI agents pay for API calls and digital services using XRP or RLUSD. The facilitator is described as infrastructure that verifies and settles presigned payment transactions, so an API can charge per request without API keys or custodial wallets.

Payment sizes are small. Heurist Inference Router reportedly received indexed RLUSD payments below one cent, including examples such as $0.001364 and $0.000776. Developers cite the suitability of the ledger for this pattern. XRPL's confirmation times of 3 to 5 seconds and low, stable fees allow programs to run large-scale automated transactions.

Transaction counts alone do not show demand for the token, however. In September, the XRPL AI Hub showed 4,491,820 all-time transactions alongside cumulative settlements of 5,836.71 XRP and 4,125.29 RLUSD. CryptoSlate noted that the small settled amounts show why transaction headlines alone offer little evidence that AI usage is driving demand for the token.

Even so, the data suggests XRPL is gaining a role as settlement infrastructure for software that pays for computing, data and other services without manual approval for each transaction.
