$BTC dipped to 80,400 dollars on bond yields, not crypto news.

$BTC is trading near 84,000 dollars after a dip toward 80,400 on Thursday, and the driver was not crypto news. It was the bond market, per Zerocap's weekly wrap.

📌 The news

The US 10-year Treasury yield touched 5.36%, its highest since 2002, before a 39 billion dollar auction pulled it back to about 5.28%. US spot Bitcoin ETFs shed 681.1 million dollars over the week and Ether ETFs lost 542.1 million. More than 1.1 billion dollars of leveraged positions were liquidated in 24 hours, about 95% of them longs.

🔍 Why it matters

• Higher yields make safe assets more attractive and tend to pressure risk assets.

• CryptoQuant recorded about 25,700 BTC of profit-taking, the largest of 2026.

• Zerocap notes the 80,000 dollar area roughly matches the average cost basis of ETF holders.

📊 The numbers

• Bitcoin dominance: about 59%.

• BTC futures open interest: down about 7% week on week.

• Perpetual funding: near neutral.

• Fear and Greed index: 57 today versus 69 yesterday, per Alternative.me.

⚖️ Bull vs bear case

Bulls say leverage got flushed and funding is neutral, which is a cleaner base. Bears say outflows, record-high yields and a hawkish Fed (most officials see another hike before year-end) keep pressure on.

👀 What to watch next

• US inflation data on October 14.

• Fed Chair Warsh's speech on October 16.

• The FOMC meeting on October 27 and 28.

🧭 Reading the tape

When rates drive the move, crypto-specific news often barely registers. That helps explain why Bitcoin sold off without a single crypto headline, and why traders now watch inflation data and central bank speakers closely.

💡 My take: this tape tracks rates more than crypto headlines. Until yields calm down, I expect headline risk around each macro release. This is my view, not advice.

💬 Where does Bitcoin go first: back below 80,000, or above 87,000? Answer with one number.
