Solana is preparing for another speed upgrade with block times expected to drop to 200 milliseconds on Friday.

According to Anza the final reduction from 250ms is scheduled for epoch 1053, expected around 15:00 UTC. Since August, the network has been progressively cutting its target block production time.

Faster blocks could help reduce transaction delays and narrow opportunities for certain trading exploits.

But speed comes with trade-offs. Validators may face heavier voting demands, network connections could experience additional strain and transactions may have less time to remain valid.

The real test is whether Solana can deliver faster execution while maintaining network reliability.
