American spot demand has been missing for 77 straight days.

The Coinbase premium gap sits at -$64, meaning Bitcoin trades at a discount on the exchange most tied to US flows versus global venues, per CryptoQuant data reported by Crypto Briefing. More than 77 consecutive days in negative territory is the longest stretch on record, nearly doubling the prior 40-day record from early 2025, back when Bitcoin fell from $95,000 to under $65,000.

10x Research reads the persistent discount as US institutions either liquidating or simply not buying. ETF flows back it up: BTC funds just logged their largest daily outflow since June at $484.9M, and Ether ETFs extended their losing streak to seven straight sessions.

That is the real story behind this week's fade. Every push above $85,000 was led by futures while the US spot bid sat on its hands. That is the profile of leverage moves, not real demand. A market held up by perp longs with no spot buying underneath resolves down, not sideways, and the last 48 hours did exactly that. Nothing changes until American buyers show up on Coinbase and pay up for coins again. The premium flipping positive is the first confirmation a bottom is real. Everything else is noise.
