BTC vs Gold: Who's Winning the Hedge Debate? (Oct 2026)

Where prices stand
🟠 Bitcoin: about $86,281 on Oct 6, up roughly 8% over a month but about 31% below a year ago. Its record is around $126K from October 2025.
🟡 Gold: spot was near $4,170 per ounce on Oct 6. It set a record of $5,589 on January 28, 2026, so it sits about 25% below that peak.

BTC/Gold ratio: about 20.7 oz (86,281 ÷ 4,170). In mid-April it was roughly 15 oz, when BTC traded near $74,000 and gold near $4,800. Bitcoin has clearly regained ground against gold.

What's driving Bitcoin
✅ US spot Bitcoin ETFs took in about $6.34B in Q3, the strongest quarter of 2026, while BTC rose nearly 43%.
✅ Binance Research noted that August's 24.8% seven-day rally ranked in the top 1% of weekly gains since 2020.
⚠️ Support sits around $81.7K–$82.8K and resistance around $87K–$87.4K.
⚠️ The Fed raised rates to 3.75%–4% on Sept 16, and one analysis warned the rally had risen without a real increase in demand.

What's driving Gold
Gold has traded in a narrow band for about a week, well below its January record. Higher interest rates tend to weigh on gold because it pays no yield. That is my own read, not something the sources state.

My take

Both assets are in a drawdown from their peaks, but Bitcoin's is deeper (-31% vs -25%).
Bitcoin offers more upside momentum and more volatility. Gold is the steadier store of value.
Watch ETF flows, Fed policy and BTC's $87K resistance next. A clean break above could extend the move, while a loss of $82K would weaken the setup.
