👀 ETHEREUM OUTPERFORMED BITCOIN IN Q3 — BUT LIQUIDITY THINNED
Ether surged 70% in Q3, comfortably beating Bitcoin’s 42% gain. But the rally came with a less bullish signal: ETH became significantly less liquid relative to BTC.
From July 6 to September 30, ETH’s median daily market depth within 0.15% of its price was only 35%–45% of Bitcoin’s, down from at least 60% during the same period last year. ETH had around $13M–$14M of depth at that range.
ETH remains fairly liquid for normal trading, but thinner order books mean larger orders can have a greater impact on price.
