Nethermind has teamed up with SMBC Nikko, recognized as one of the most prominent securities firms in Japan, to create an onchain trading platform named the DeFi Gateway. Designed specifically to serve Japanese investors on Uniswap v4, the project is scheduled to be completed by mid-2027. Development of the platform is being actively supported by the Nyx Foundation, Base, and Uniswap Labs.

This new venue will feature custom liquidity pools that strictly adhere to the regulatory standards of Japan, and these will be seeded by an entirely new liquidity provisioning protocol. Because the architecture relies on the established Uniswap Protocol, it benefits from a flawless security record, having successfully managed over $4.7 trillion in trading volume with zero hacks. To ensure safety and compliance, specialized hooks are embedded within each pool to automatically perform investor protections alongside standard AML/CFT checks.

Users will find that the platform accommodates a diverse array of liquidity options, encompassing real-world assets (RWAs), stablecoins, and numerous other digital assets. Furthermore, the foundational framework of the pools will be completely open, inviting external teams to develop upon it. To make the onboarding process as smooth as possible for investors, SMBC Nikko and Nethermind are also in the process of designing intuitive interfaces and AI-powered vaults. Throughout this phase, Uniswap Labs is offering strategic guidance concerning liquidity deployment and technical integration.
