After Bitget was hacked on September 24, $387.5 million in stolen funds began moving across chains, some toward THORChain. Bitget CEO Gracy Chen asked THORChain to refuse service to attacker-linked addresses, but THORChain refused. By contrast, NEAR Intents said its SHIELD system identified more than $50 million in attempted flows linked to the hack and stopped $503,000 during execution; $166,000 passed through. THORChain developer Boone Wheeler says the protocol cannot screen individual addresses without abandoning its permissionless design. Critics question that position because THORChain halted activity during a security incident in May.
