This Bitcoin story just got interesting.
The IMF has approved an immediate ~$138M disbursement to El Salvador under its $1.4B Extended Fund Facility, after granting waivers for missed performance criteria related to Bitcoin holdings.
But here’s the part traders are watching 👀
El Salvador provided documentation showing that the Bitcoin added after the first IMF review came from private donations, not public funds.
The country has also transferred majority ownership and control of the Chivo government wallet to a private operator, while the IMF continues pushing for greater transparency around public-sector crypto holdings.
So the situation is more complicated than:
“IMF approves Bitcoin buying.” ❌
The IMF actually says no further Bitcoin accumulation is expected beyond documented donations. At the same time, the $138M disbursement is now available.
For crypto traders, I’m watching:
🔹 $BTC — another major Bitcoin + nation-state headline
🔹 $AR — decentralized storage narrative
🔹 $STX — Bitcoin ecosystem exposure
The bigger story?
El Salvador’s Bitcoin experiment is still being watched closely by global financial institutions.
And now the IMF has released another tranche while maintaining conditions around the country's future Bitcoin accumulation. 👀
The Bitcoin story is definitely not over.
