The 2018 acquisition of BitTorrent was a major business milestone in Justin Sun's career.
What interests me is the difference between creating something new and taking responsibility for something that already has millions of users and a long history.
When you build from scratch, you have more freedom to shape the original direction.
When you take over an established product, you inherit both its strengths and its challenges.
There is a history to understand.
There are existing expectations.
And there are people who may have very different ideas about what the future should look like.
This is not only a business lesson.
It also applies when joining a new workplace, taking over a family responsibility, or becoming part of an established community.
The first instinct may be to prove yourself by changing things quickly.
But listening and understanding can be more useful than rushing to demonstrate authority.
The BitTorrent chapter of @justinsuntron's career makes me think about the importance of respecting what already exists while still being willing to explore new possibilities.
Good judgment often begins with understanding the situation before trying to transform it.
