Uptober? would we get one ?
My October thesis is constructive but not euphoric.
The market can extend higher if ETF demand absorbs macro pressure, but the dominant risk is that higher yields and another Fed hike overwhelm the improving crypto-specific flows.
Deep Dive
1. The market is risk-on, but the rally is already mature
Total crypto market cap rose 9.4% over the past 30 days to $2.89T, while BTC dominance fell from 59.7% to 58.7% during September. The Altcoin Season Index climbed from 26 to 63, showing that capital has broadened beyond Bitcoin rather than staying concentrated in the largest asset.
2. ETF demand is the strongest bullish pillar
U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF AUM increased from $100.39B on September 1 to $110.97B on September 30, a 10.5% monthly rise.
3. Macro remains the veto
The October 27–28 Fed meeting is the main event risk. Recent coverage puts the probability of another 25-basis-point hike around 64% to 70%, while the 10-year Treasury yield has moved above 5%
4. Leverage has been reduced, which helps the setup
Global open interest fell from $412.1B to $368.4B over the past 30 days, down 10.6%, while average funding remains positive at 0.0064%.
However, derivatives activity remains much larger than spot activity: perpetuals were about $863.7B versus $171.2B in spot volume over the latest 24-hour reading.
Base case: a volatile upward or sideways month, with Bitcoin leading first and larger alt-coins participating only if ETF flows stay positive and rate expectations stop worsening.
Bull case: ETF demand accelerates, the Fed delivers less tightening than priced, and falling BTC dominance supports a broader altcoin rotation.
Bear case: yields and oil remain elevated into the Fed meeting, ETF inflows fade, and the market retests the late-September lows through another leverage unwind.
Bottom line: October looks more like a liquidity and macro test than a guaranteed seasonal rally.
