🚨 US job openings just fell to a 5 month low. 🇺🇸📉
August JOLTS data showed openings dropping by 256K to 7.079M, below the 7.225M expected.
But here's the interesting part:
📉 Job openings → 7.079M
👷 Hires → 5.192M
⚠️ Layoffs → 1.641M
📊 Layoff rate → 1.0%
So this doesn't look like a labor market collapse.
It's more like “low hire, low fire.”
Companies appear to be slowing hiring without aggressively cutting workers.
For the Fed, that's an important signal.
The labor market is cooling, but layoffs remain historically low, while inflation and other economic pressures are still being watched closely.
👀 Does this give the Fed more room to focus on inflation, or is weaker hiring the first warning of a bigger slowdown?
