  • Researchers proposed Shielded Bitcoin, using Zcash's zero-knowledge proof cryptography to hide sender, receiver, and amounts without requiring a soft fork.

  • Shielded Bitcoin lacks any mechanism to move BTC in or out yet, keeping it theoretical while Zcash has already surged 96% in a month.

  • Privacy coins gained $24.5 billion in market value over 5 months, driven by Grayscale's Zcash ETF launch and Paradigm disclosing its ZEC holdings.

  • The biggest 401k decisions tend to get made once and never revisited: when to roll it over, what to hold inside it, and when to start taking money out. That is exactly what the report: 401k & IRA Tips and Answers was created to address, and it is free today. Read more here. (Sponsor)

On September 25, 2026, a team of researchers from [alloc] init, a cryptography lab in New York, released a proposal aiming to enable Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) users to make private transactions utilizing the cryptography that powers Zcash (CRYPTO: ZEC). Dubbed Shielded Bitcoin, the paper comes as Zcash has surged nearly 96% in a month, reaching its highest level in nearly a decade.

The paper’s authors, Clara Shikhelman, Mikhail Komarov, and Aleksei Moskvin, believe their design can provide privacy for Bitcoin transactions without changing Bitcoin’s underlying rules. However, this raises questions: Does this privacy solution benefit Zcash holders, or does it make Bitcoin a competitor to Zcash’s unique offerings?
