Bitget reportedly suffered a major security incident on September 24, involving approximately $351.6 million in assets. The exchange temporarily paused withdrawals while investigating the situation.
🔐 The interesting part: Bitget CEO Gracy Chen said the attackers did not steal the platform’s private keys.
Instead, according to Bitget, the attackers appear to have compromised the backend of the wallet system, manipulated transfer data, and then used the exchange’s existing authorization process to execute fraudulent transfers.
⚠️ This makes the incident different from a typical private-key theft and raises important questions about the security of exchange infrastructure and wallet-management systems.
