Each candle summarises one period with four numbers: where price opened, where it closed, and the highest and lowest it reached in between. The body spans open to close; the thin wicks reach out to the extremes.
Two candles can look identical in colour and mean opposite things. A small body with long wicks says price travelled a long way and ended near where it started - conflict. A large body with short wicks says one side controlled the whole period. Before any indicator, this is the information a chart is actually made of.
