$BTC - A New York cryptography lab says private transfers could run on Bitcoin while leaving the base protocol unchanged.

Bitcoin.com News reported Thursday that [[alloc] init] published Shielded Bitcoin, a Zcash-style proposal.

It would conceal transfer amounts and counterparties without a soft fork, separate chain, federation, or trusted operator.

The report doesn't establish whether the proposal has been audited, implemented, or scheduled for deployment.
