$XRP Ledger’s Next Major Upgrades
The XRP Ledger has two major upgrade tracks in motion, with one already approaching activation.
PermissionDelegationV1_1 began its 14-day activation countdown on September 21, putting October 5 as the potential go-live date. Around 29 of 35 trusted validators are supporting it.
The upgrade allows account authority to be divided by specific permissions. For example, an operations account could make payments without being able to change keys or grant additional access.
This version also addresses an issue found in the previous attempt, where certain failed transactions could still incur fees. The fix in xrpld 3.3.0 verifies signatures before fees are charged.
Meanwhile, XLS-65 and XLS-66 still need more than 80% validator support for two consecutive weeks.
XLS-65 introduces Single Asset Vaults, while XLS-66 builds fixed-term lending around them. The design includes off-chain underwriting, no automatic liquidations, fixed investment windows, cash-basis interest accounting, and optional first-loss capital.
If approved, these changes would add more flexible permission management and new lending infrastructure to the XRPL ecosystem.
