Zcash's ETF-driven rally may have shown us something bigger than ZEC itself — money is starting to move across the whole privacy-coin sector. Right after ZEC's move, Dash and Horizen (ZEN) started showing the same kind of strength. And that's really the question here: is this a genuine repricing across the whole sector, or just leverage piling onto the same story?
Here's what we know for sure. Zcash crossed $1,000 on September 4, 2026, for the first time in nearly a decade — right around when Grayscale's ZCSH launched, which is being called the first US spot ETF offering direct exposure to a privacy coin. Zcash's hash rate picked up right alongside the price move too.
The second-wave idea is pretty simple. If institutions are actually starting to treat privacy as a real, investable category, then capital shouldn't just stay parked in ZEC — it should eventually spread to other privacy coins as well.
Here's what's worth watching:
DASH is up roughly 165% from mid-August to its September 6 peak
ZEN has outperformed Bitcoin over the last 90 days
Open interest in DASH futures rose about 20%, with positive funding rates — meaning fresh leveraged bets are coming in, not just short-covering
But here's the catch.
Moving together doesn't automatically mean it's confirmed.
ZEC, DASH, and ZEN rising in sync could mean real sector-wide demand — or it could just mean the same narrative is spreading from one token to the next. Privacy coins already have thin liquidity, so even a small amount of capital rotation can cause outsized price swings.
More importantly, rising open interest plus positive funding doesn't tell us whether traders genuinely believe in this, or whether they're just chasing momentum.
The real test hasn't happened yet.
The privacy sector doesn't need another sharp rally to prove this thesis. What it needs is to hold up once ZEC cools off.
If DASH and ZEN can keep their volume, liquidity, and relative strength during a ZEC pullback, that's when the case for a genuine sector-wide move gets stronger. Until then, what we're seeing is broadening momentum — not yet a structural shift.
Don't just watch the headline number. Watch the breadth.
Do your own research. This isn't financial advice.
