Iranian sources have reported that it has activated "Code 100," its highest level of alert, for its armed forces, including the Revolutionary Guard, the Army, and security forces.
At the same time, Donald Trump cut short his stay at Camp David and returned early to the White House, while Benjamin Netanyahu also shortened his trip to the United States to return to Israel.
The U.S. State Department also issued a security alert for its citizens in the Middle East. In recent hours, reports have also been circulating about movements of U.S. bombers toward the region and about a possible escalation related to Iran or Yemen.
All of this is occurring in an extremely delicate scenario, and any new military action could trigger an even greater expansion of the conflict.
This is not the time to downplay these signals: when military forces raise their readiness and top political authorities alter their agendas for security reasons, the risk of a new escalation is real.
And amid this tension, the words of the Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, should resonate far beyond Tehran:
"If international law is ignored every time the interests of the great powers dictate it, one can no longer speak of the supremacy of law. If human rights are an inherent right for some nations and a conditional privilege for others, they can no longer be called universal."
That is precisely the contradiction that runs through the international system: there is constant talk of rules, human rights, and a rules-based order, but when a great power believes its strategic interests are at stake, those same rules seem to become negotiable.
International law cannot be mandatory for some and optional for others. If Washington decides once again to use force against Iran or to expand military operations related to Yemen, we will be facing another turn in a cycle of escalation that for decades has turned the Middle East into a permanent battlefield.
The way out cannot continue to be more bombs, more troops, and more destruction: it has to be stopping the spiral before another war ends up paying its bill with civilian lives. 🔴 💣
