Everyone thinks a single ETF flow number tells you where crypto is headed, but actually that headline might be the most misleading stat you'll read all week.

Last week U.S. crypto ETFs posted $70.7M in net outflows. Plenty of traders read that as smart money heading for the exits, stayed on the sidelines, and then watched $BTC rip back above $80K without them. Here's what the average was hiding.

1. Bitcoin quietly finished positive at +$6.1M, and BTC ETFs pulled in $433M on Friday alone as price reclaimed $80K. That's not a market cooling off, that's a late-week sprint.

2. Solana ran away with the show. $SOL took in $60.7M, and BSOL alone grabbed $58.7M , almost 97% of the category's entire weekly inflows. One fund basically carried the whole basket.

3. Ethereum was the leak in the bucket, bleeding $140.6M even after a decent Friday. The "average" made everything look mildly soft when really $ETH was the one outlier dragging the whole number down.

Think of it like checking your household budget. Total spending looks flat, but one account is hemorrhaging cash while another is stacking savings. Averages hide the story; divergence tells it. If you're trading off the headline instead of the breakdown, you're basically driving with a foggy windshield.

So is the $ETH outflow a warning sign, or is everyone else just missing the discount?
