$NEAR

is no longer just moving with the altcoin market — today, the project has its own story.
On September 18, NEAR surged sharply, with reports showing gains of more than 20% over 24 hours and roughly 40%+ over the week. The move came as trading activity accelerated and the market reacted to a major new development in NEAR’s trading infrastructure.
The catalyst: private perpetual trading
On September 17, NEAR introduced confidential perpetual futures by default through its trading platform. The system uses NEAR’s Confidential Intents infrastructure while Hyperliquid provides the underlying trading liquidity and execution.
The important idea here is privacy.
Traditional on-chain trading can expose information such as wallet activity and trading behavior. NEAR’s Confidential Intents architecture is designed to keep sensitive execution details away from public mempools and reduce exposure to strategies that could otherwise be monitored or targeted by automated traders.
For traders, this creates a different proposition: use cross-chain liquidity while keeping trading activity more private.
NEAR Intents is expanding
The derivatives launch is arriving alongside growing activity around NEAR Intents.
NEAR announced on September 17 that its confidential TVL had crossed $70 million, triggering the first snapshot in its NEAR@3.33 incentive milestone program.
That matters because the broader NEAR narrative is increasingly shifting from simply being another Layer-1 network toward infrastructure that connects assets, chains, trading and private execution.
But the rally has a risk factor
The speed of the move is important.
Recent technical analysis reported NEAR trading around the $3.40–$3.50 region, with momentum indicators becoming heavily overbought. One analysis identified approximately $3.57 as an important near-term resistance area and $3.38 as a level to watch if the breakout starts losing strength.
That doesn't automatically mean the rally must reverse. It means expectations and momentum have moved extremely quickly, so volatility can increase.
The bigger story is therefore not simply the percentage gain.
NEAR is attempting to build a market identity around cross-chain execution, privacy and trading infrastructure, while today's price action shows that traders are paying attention.
The question now is whether NEAR's new privacy infrastructure can translate this sudden market attention into sustained ecosystem activity.
