Christine Lagarde personally blocked $BNB Binance's MiCA license in the EU
WSJ reports Binance was VERY close to approval:
• Application complete
• Announcement prepped
• Richard Teng trip to Athens planned
Then Lagarde called the Greek PM directly and killed it
The kicker? ECB has ZERO authority over MiCA licenses. She overstepped hard.
Why? She's scared Binance would pump USD stablecoin adoption in Europe while ECB pushes its CBDC digital euro. Classic protectionism.
Her term ends next year. Binance will get that license eventually, with or without her blocking.
