Crypto markets are entering one of the most important macro sessions of the week, with Bitcoin trading around the $76,000 area while traders wait for the Federal Reserve’s September policy decision.
According to Binance market data, Bitcoin was trading near $75,700 at the time of writing, down roughly 3.1% over 24 hours. Ethereum was around $2,400, down about 4.5%, while BNB was near $713. XRP and Solana were also under pressure, with XRP around $1.29 and SOL near $97. These figures are live market data and can change quickly.
The Fed is today's biggest macro event
The Federal Open Market Committee is meeting on September 15–16. The official Federal Reserve calendar shows the policy announcement scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET today, with the press conference at 2:30 p.m. ET.
The previous FOMC meeting in July left the federal funds target range at 3.50%–3.75%. The July minutes also showed that three members preferred a 25-basis-point increase at that meeting, while the majority supported holding rates unchanged. The minutes said inflation remained elevated relative to the Fed’s 2% goal.
That makes today's statement, economic projections and Chair Kevin Warsh’s comments particularly important for markets. The rate decision itself will be only one part of the information traders receive.
U.S. economic data also matters
Today’s U.S. calendar includes August retail-sales data and August import and export price data. The Census Bureau scheduled the August retail-sales release for 8:30 a.m. ET, while the Bureau of Labor Statistics scheduled August import and export price data for the same time.
These releases matter because markets are watching both consumer activity and inflation-related pressures while the Fed evaluates monetary policy.
Crypto regulation adds another layer
Yesterday, the U.S. Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act. The procedural vote was 50–49, below the 60 votes required to advance the legislation. Reuters reported that Bitcoin fell more than 5% during the session as the vote was heading toward failure.
This means crypto is dealing with two separate sources of uncertainty: U.S. monetary policy today and the regulatory path for digital assets following the Senate vote.
Ethereum continues building
Away from the short-term price action, Ethereum’s development roadmap remains active. The Ethereum Foundation says the Glamsterdam hard fork is in public testing, while work on the next upgrade, Hegotá, is being narrowed down. The Ethereum Foundation is also holding its Protocol Reddit AMA today at 2:00 p.m. UTC.
What I am watching
For me, the key point today is not trying to guess the Fed decision before it happens. The important information will come from the actual rate decision, the updated economic projections and the press conference.
Bitcoin is already trading under pressure, while several major altcoins are showing larger daily declines. The next major market move will depend on how investors interpret the Fed's message and whether it changes expectations for future policy.
Until the official announcement arrives, there is no reason to label today's market as definitively bullish or bearish. The data is telling us that volatility is elevated, and the next confirmed macro signal is still ahead
