Ethereum Layer 2 network Scroll is upgrading its prover stack to OpenVM v2.0 on 22 September 2026. The move adopts the SWIRL proof system, delivers post-quantum security, and patches three verifier vulnerabilities. 🔐⚡
How Scroll works under the hood:
🔹 Sequencer: Orders and executes transactions rapidly on Layer 2 so transfers feel instant.
🔹 Prover (zkVM): Generates a zero-knowledge proof verifying that the batch is valid.
🔹 Verifier contract: Checks that proof on Ethereum Layer 1 for permanent settlement.
Unlike Optimistic rollups with a 7-day fraud-proof delay, zk-rollups achieve cryptographic finality as soon as Ethereum checks the proof. 📦✨
