For the first time since December 2024, Bitcoin isn't calling the shots.
Here's what most people are missing about today's market.
Bitcoin dominance has slipped below 60% — a level it hadn't touched since late 2024. At the same time, open positions on altcoin futures have overtaken open positions on Bitcoin futures for the first time in that same period.
Add to that: the combined market cap of coins outside the top 10 has broken past $200 billion.
None of this guarantees an "altseason." Dominance moves up and down constantly, and futures positioning can flip in days. But taken together, these numbers suggest traders are actively rotating capital, not just sitting in Bitcoin and waiting.
One possible scenario: capital keeps spreading into altcoins as risk appetite holds. Another: any volatility spike pulls traders straight back into BTC as the "safer" crypto asset. Both are on the table right now.
