• Needs 60 votes to move forward — GOP holds 53 seats, so at least 7 Democrats must cross over
• This is a cloture vote — it only opens debate, it does NOT pass the bill
• Bill splits oversight between SEC & CFTC, giving CFTC power over most spot markets
Where it stands:
✅ House passed it July 2025
✅ Senate Banking Committee advanced it 15–9 in May 2026
⚠️ New 630-page revision (Sept 9) added 100+ Dem amendments — but still missing the ethics provision on officials' crypto holdings
The blocker:
Democrats want restrictions on senior officials (including Trump family) profiting from crypto ventures. Without it, several Dems likely vote NO.
My take:
With midterms in November and Dem support still short, odds of passage this year look slim. But Monday's vote tells us if this bill is alive or dead.
