OpenAI asked members of Congress whether AI companies could legally agree to slow development. WIRED cited people close to OpenAI who said the company asked lawmakers whether such an agreement could violate antitrust laws. The outreach followed chief scientist Jakub Pachocki's call for voluntary slowdowns until developers can better demonstrate that their systems are safe. A bill introduced by Sens. Adam Schiff and Jim Banks would protect certain security collaborations with advance notice to the Justice Department.
