Iran says it captured a U.S. Dive-LD autonomous underwater vehicle near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz, highlighting the growing role of unmanned systems in modern warfare.
Built by American defense technology company Anduril, the roughly 5.8-meter-long submarine drone can operate autonomously for up to 10 days and dive to depths of approximately 6,000 meters (19,700 feet). It can be configured for missions including intelligence and surveillance, seabed mapping, mine detection and inspection of underwater infrastructure. (Al Jazeera)
The United States says the vehicle had malfunctioned more than a day earlier and was an older model that did not carry sensitive data or classified sonar or radar equipment.
