GEN Z & CRYPTO - EP. 04
51% Have Been There. How Big Is This Generation’s Head Start?

Here’s another number that says a lot about where crypto is heading: 51% of Gen Z respondents globally said they currently own or have previously owned crypto, the highest rate among generations in the Gemini survey.
What catches my attention isn't simply that Gen Z owns more crypto. It’s how early crypto entered their financial lives.

For older generations, investing was traditionally introduced through banks, stocks, pensions, real estate, or financial advisors. For Gen Z, crypto arrived alongside smartphones, social media, digital payments, gaming, and online economies. So owning a digital asset doesn't necessarily feel like stepping outside the financial system. To many younger investors, digital ownership is already normal.

And this creates an interesting generational shift. If half of a generation has already interacted with crypto before reaching the later stages of their careers, we're not just looking at today's adoption numbers. We're looking at a generation that could potentially carry crypto through decades of increasing income, investing experience, and financial participation. But I don't think the future depends on Gen Z simply holding more crypto. The bigger question is what happens as they become more financially mature. Do they keep chasing narratives and short-term pumps, or do they gradually move toward Bitcoin, stablecoins, ETFs, and diversified portfolios?
That's the part I'm watching. Because if Gen Z's relationship with crypto evolves from “I own crypto” into “crypto is a normal part of my portfolio,”the impact could be much bigger than today's ownership statistics suggest.

The funny part?
The generation everyone calls “too young to understand finance” may already have the biggest head start in crypto. 👀
