I used to think zero-knowledge proofs were one of those concepts that sounded impressive but had little to do with everyday financial applications.

Looking deeper into Dusk changed that view.

The interesting part isn’t simply that Dusk uses ZK cryptography. It’s how different primitives such as BLS12-381, JubJub, Schnorr, Poseidon and Merkle trees fit together to support privacy, commitments, signatures and verification.

PLONK is especially interesting to me. At a basic level, it allows someone to prove that certain conditions are satisfied without exposing all the underlying information.

Think about an investor who needs to prove they passed KYC or are eligible to buy a particular asset. Instead of putting sensitive personal information on-chain, the system can verify the required condition while limiting what gets disclosed.

That’s where I think the real value of ZK becomes clearer:

PLONK → ZK proof → verification → selective disclosure

Dusk’s Aegis upgrade bringing PLONK V3 to mainnet makes this even more interesting to follow.

For me, the bigger question is no longer whether privacy and compliance can coexist, but how far this model of selective disclosure can actually go in real financial markets.
