Did You Know? On This Day, the Greatest Figure in History Was Born
🎉🎁
Did you know that on this very day, the 12th of Rabi' al-Awwal, the greatest figure in history was born? He is our Prophet Muhammad bin Abdullah ﷺ, whom Allah chose and made a mercy to the worlds and a Messenger to all of humanity.
This remarkable personality has been acknowledged by thinkers from various cultures and religions. In his famous book "The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History", American historian and thinker Michael H. Hart did not hesitate to place Prophet Muhammad ﷺ at the number one spot, as the most influential figure in human history. Hart justified his choice by stating that Muhammad ﷺ was "the only man in history who was supremely successful on both the religious and secular levels," describing him as "the greatest politician history has known."
Most biographers and historians agree that his noble birth took place on Monday, the 12th of Rabi' al-Awwal, in the Year of the Elephant, in Makkah. (While other narrations suggest the 9th or 10th of the same month, the well-known and widely accepted opinion is the 12th.)
He ﷺ was born to perfect the noblest of morals, to bring people from darkness into light, and to establish firm foundations for human interaction, whether in ethics or financial dealings, which we will detail in full below.
---
Part One: His Ethics ﷺ .. The Perfect Role Model
Allah praised His Prophet in the Holy Quran, saying: "And indeed, you are of a great moral character" (Surah Al-Qalam: 4). Allah combined in His Prophet perfection of both physical appearance and inner character. He was the most beautiful of people in manners, the most generous in spirit, and the most expansive in mercy and compassion.
The Prophet ﷺ summarized the ultimate goal of his mission in his saying: "I have been sent only to perfect noble morals."
Key Traits and Manners:
1. Truthfulness and Trustworthiness
He was known among the Quraysh before his prophethood as "Al-Sadiq Al-Amin" (the Truthful and the Trustworthy), and they never experienced anything from him but honesty. He was truthful with his Lord, himself, people, family, and even enemies. When his enemies were asked about him, they said: "We have never experienced any lie from him."
2. Humility
He was extremely humble. He ate with the poor, sat with his companions without distinction, patched his own clothes, and served himself. He accepted the invitation of both the slave and the free, and he greeted children when passing by.
3. Mercy
His mercy ﷺ encompassed all of creation, even his enemies. When he conquered Makkah, he told its people: "Go, for you are free" – he pardoned them despite what they had done to him.
4. Generosity and Liberality
He gave like one who does not fear poverty. He was never asked for anything except that he gave it. Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was the most generous of people, and he was most generous in Ramadan."
5. Forbearance and Patience
He was the most patient of people. He never became angry for himself nor sought revenge for his own sake. He endured the harm of his people for many years and prayed for their guidance, not their punishment.
6. Forgiveness and Tolerance
Allah said: "Take what is given freely, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the ignorant" (Al-A'raf: 199). His character was the Quran; he dealt with people with tolerance and gentleness.

Part Two: His Financial and Commercial Dealings .. Foundations of Success and Investment
Before becoming a Prophet, Muhammad ﷺ was a successful merchant. He worked in trade from a young age and traveled with the Quraysh caravans to the Levant (Syria). He ﷺ established solid financial and commercial principles that remain relevant today for profitable investment strategies:
1. Truthfulness and Trustworthiness in Trade
He ﷺ was the perfect example of honesty and trustworthiness in financial transactions. When he traded for Lady Khadija (may Allah be pleased with her) before his prophethood, he traveled to the Levant and earned multiples of what others earned, thanks to his honesty and integrity.
The Prophet ﷺ said: "The truthful, trustworthy merchant will be with the Prophets, the truthful, and the martyrs" (Narrated by At-Tirmidhi). Honesty in buying and selling is a means of success for the merchant, elevating him to high ranks.
2. Prohibition of Fraud and Deceit
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever cheats is not of me" (Narrated by Muslim). In another narration: "Whoever deceives us is not of us." Integrity and transparency are the foundations of any successful transaction. Fraud destroys trust, and trust is the true capital in any market.
3. Prohibition of Usury (Riba)
Islam forbids usury because it involves injustice and exploitation. Allah permitted trade and forbade usury. Allah said: "But Allah has permitted trade and has forbidden interest [usury]" (Al-Baqarah: 275). This establishes an economy based on justice, not on exploiting people's needs.
4. Prohibition of Gharar (Excessive Uncertainty/Speculation)
The Prophet ﷺ forbade Gharar, which refers to excessive risk, uncertainty, and speculation in transactions. He forbade selling what one does not possess, selling non-existent items, and ambiguous contracts. This teaches us the importance of avoiding uncalculated speculation and investing in what is clear and known.
5. Mutual Consent in Transactions
The Prophet ﷺ said: "A sale is only valid by mutual consent" (Narrated by Ibn Majah). Financial transactions must proceed with mutual agreement between parties – no coercion, no deception, and no fraud.
6. Justice and Fairness in Weighing
Allah said: "And give full measure and weight in justice" (Al-An'am: 152). The Prophet ﷺ urged people to give others their full rights and to be fair in transactions. He said: "Woe to those who give less in measure and weight on the Day of Judgment." A fair merchant earns people's trust and continues to succeed.
7. Fulfillment of Covenants and Promises
He ﷺ was the most faithful to his covenants, even with his enemies. Allah said: "And fulfill [every] covenant. Indeed, the covenant will be questioned" (Al-Isra: 34). This applies to financial contracts and agreements.
8. Leniency in Buying and Selling
The Prophet ﷺ said: "May Allah have mercy on a man who is lenient when he sells, when he buys, and when he demands payment" (Narrated by Al-Bukhari). Leniency in transactions brings blessings and builds long-term relationships.
9. Prohibition of Hoarding/Monopoly
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever hoards goods intending to raise prices upon Muslims is a sinner" (Narrated by Abu Dawud). Hoarding harms the market and consumers. A fair market is one of fair competition.
10. Encouragement of Lawful Earnings
The Prophet ﷺ said: "No one eats better food than that which he eats from the work of his own hands. And the Prophet of Allah, David, used to eat from the work of his own hands" (Narrated by Al-Bukhari). Islam encourages work and lawful earnings and discourages laziness and idleness.

Part Three: Lessons for Modern Investors
Practical application of the Prophet's ﷺ teachings in today's world of finance and business:
📌 Lesson 1: Transparency Builds Trust
· In the investment world, transparency in disclosing information is the foundation of investor confidence.
· Market fraud or data manipulation leads to a loss of credibility, exactly as the Prophet ﷺ warned us.
📌 Lesson 2: Avoiding Gharar = Avoiding Uncalculated Speculation
· Cryptocurrencies and financial markets require deep study and understanding.
· Entering investments without adequate knowledge resembles the Gharar (excessive uncertainty) that the Prophet ﷺ forbade.
📌 Lesson 3: Fair Dealing Builds a Lasting Reputation
· Fair pricing, fulfilling promises, and respecting the rights of others build a long-lasting reputation.
· A good reputation is the most valuable investment you can own.
📌 Lesson 4: Honesty is a Long-Term Investment
· Honesty may seem costly in the short term, but it is the safest investment in the long term.
· As the Prophet ﷺ said: "The two parties to a transaction have the option [to cancel] until they separate. If they are honest and clarify [defects], their transaction will be blessed" (Narrated by Al-Bukhari).
📌 Lesson 5: Avoiding Riba (Usury) = Avoiding Exploitation
· Avoid exploiting others through loans and financing, and seek fair alternatives.
· In the finance world, many are looking for "Islamic finance" based on partnership rather than interest.
📌 Lesson 6: Generosity and Giving
· Generosity in business and charity is part of success.
· Successful institutions invest in corporate social responsibility, which increases their value.
📌 Lesson 7: Hard Work and Diligence
· The Prophet ﷺ worked with his own hands and labored to earn his living.
· Success comes through effort and diligence, not luck alone.
