What Is Ethena?

Ethena is the protocol behind USDe—a synthetic dollar that doesn't rely on traditional bank reserves like USDC or USDT. Instead, it uses a "delta-neutral" strategy: taking crypto collateral (ETH, BTC, etc.), holding it long, and hedging against price drops with equal short positions in perpetual futures.

This creates a stable value that can generate yield from:

  • Staking rewards on the collateral

  • Positive funding rates paid by longs to shorts in futures markets

The protocol's yield-bearing token, sUSDe, has attracted billions in TVL. At its peak in 2024, USDe's supply was over $3.6 billion and sUSDe was yielding over 20% APY.

What's Happened in 2026?

ENA has been through a brutal correction. After peaking above $1.40, it spent months consolidating below $0.10—a drop of over 90%.

The recent 40% surge to $0.14 coincides with two shifts:

  1. Ethereum's strength – DeFi tokens like ENA tend to move with ETH.

  2. Improved protocol numbers – August protocol revenue was significant, and TVL is recovering.

Market speculation about a fee switch—a mechanism that could redirect protocol revenue to ENA stakers—has been a driver of the rally.

But the narrative has evolved. In October 2025, USDe briefly de-pegged to $0.65 during market stress, exposing the vulnerability of relying solely on funding rates. Ethena has since diversified:

  • USDtb – a stablecoin backed by US Treasuries and BlackRock's BUIDL fund

  • Multi-collateral expansion – reducing reliance on ETH perpetuals

Where Is Price Right Now?

Current price: $0.1398. The price surged from below $0.10 to break through the EMA ($0.1183) and VWAP ($0.1320).

Volume is massive—$838M in 24 hours—exceeding the market cap. Buyer/Seller ratio shows buyers at 56.5%.

Key levels to watch:

  • $0.1448 – 4h high resistance

  • $0.1320 – VWAP support

  • $0.1183 – EMA support

  • ~$1.42 – ATH (2024 peak)

The surge has broken through the EMA and VWAP, signaling a potential trend shift—at least for now.

Questions to Think About

  • If you're holding ENA, what's your narrative—the DeFi surge, the fee switch, or a return to $1.40?

  • A 90% drop followed by a 40% bounce: is this a new cycle or a short squeeze?

  • The protocol's shift to multi-collateral and RWA backing suggests Ethena is adapting, but the underlying risks remain.

One Reflection

From over $1.40 to $0.06. That's a brutal journey.

But Ethena survived. It adapted. It's now positioning itself as a bridge between DeFi and TradFi with USDtb and hybrid collateral.

The question is: Does $0.14 represent value for a protocol that's learning from its mistakes? Or is the market still pricing in the memory of the 2025 de-peg?
