But Dusk just activated one anyway. Boreas Protocol Upgrade, Rusk v1.7.0.
What it actually touches: network resilience. Resource accounting. Client compatibility. Rusk Wallet also moved to v0.4.0 alongside it.
Here's why I care about a testnet update. Boreas is direct prep for the DuskEVM mainnet. DuskEVM lets Solidity developers deploy on Dusk without rewriting anything. That only works if the base layer holds up first.
Dusk is a layer-1 privacy blockchain built for financial applications. XSC, its Confidential Security Contract standard, powers confidential smart contracts across the network. None of that matters on a chain that can't handle load predictably.
Everyone talks NPEX. Everyone talks tokenized securities. Fair, that's the real use case. But a regulated exchange isn't routing live settlement volume through infrastructure that hasn't proven itself on the boring fundamentals first.
This is the part that gets skipped in most Dusk content. The upgrade nobody's posting about is the one making the upgrade everybody wants to talk about actually possible.
Think about what actually breaks in production. Not the feature nobody built. The edge case in resource accounting nobody stress-tested. The client version mismatch nobody caught before mainnet. Boreas exists to close exactly those gaps before real money and real securities settle through this chain.
That's a different kind of newsworthy than a partnership announcement, but it's the kind that determines whether the partnership announcements hold up six months later.
