You went in looking for the leverage angle and walked out staring at the depositors instead. That mismatch is the real tell. The zero-liquidation pitch pulls attention, but the capital that actually sits there is mostly people who just want a known rate for a known period and then go do something else with their day. Lenders and vault users don’t need the drama. They need the rate to hold and the exit to be clean.

When the token unlocks, the first real pressure usually comes from the group that already has skin in the game and the least reason to wait. The yield crowd is already positioned. Their money is working. A sudden claimable allocation is just another line item they can decide to hold, stake, or rotate. They’re not refreshing the chart every five minutes waiting for permission to act.

The degen leverage side is different. A lot of that cohort shows up for the narrative and the optionality. They’re more likely to treat the unlock as an event itself—something to trade around, something to front-run, something that finally gives them a liquid marker for the story they’ve been watching. They tend to move first when the float appears, not because they’re deeper in the protocol, but because the token is the new shiny object and the leverage story finally has a ticker.

If price action ends up tracking the vault side more closely, it probably means the patient capital is the one setting the tone early. That group doesn’t need to “show up.” They’re already there. The leverage crowd might still arrive in force, but they often arrive later, once the chart has already started speaking the quieter language of the depositors.

The interesting part isn’t which group is larger. It’s which one treats the unlock as a continuation versus a starting gun.
