I kept digging into Dusk's staking model, and another layer started to matter more than the emission schedule itself.
A declining issuance curve only tells part of the story. The real question is what happens when network incentives gradually shift from inflation toward economic activity. That transition is where many proof-of-stake networks are ultimately tested.
If validator rewards continue relying mostly on newly minted $DUSK, then long-term sustainability remains closely tied to emissions. But if transaction volume, smart contract execution, confidential transfers, and real settlement activity begin contributing a larger share of rewards, the network starts generating security from actual usage instead of primarily from token issuance.
That makes Hyperstaking more interesting than it first appears. Allowing smart contracts to participate in staking introduces the possibility of programmable security rather than a staking model limited to traditional validators. The long-term value isn't simply locking more tokens. It's whether developers can build applications that make staking an active part of protocol design.
The bigger metric I want to watch isn't just APR. It's validator participation, fee growth, staking concentration, contract adoption, and whether on-chain demand expands as emissions continue declining.
