I used to think more validators meant more security. Like a crowd witnessing a crime—if a thousand people see it, nobody can lie.

Then I read about Dusk's Succinct Attestation. Something felt different.

It's not a vote. It's a relay. Proposer builds the block alone. Validation checks it. Ratification doesn't re-check the block—they check the Validators' work and finalize.

If you're on Ratification, you're trusting a trust certificate. Not the block itself.

Efficiency makes sense. But what stuck was the silence. In traditional consensus, misbehavior is public. In SA, if Validation colludes and Ratification signs off, the network just sees a finalized block. No dissenting voice.

Math says this works if random selection is fair. The beacon uses the previous block's hash and staking weights. But could I time my proposal to nudge the seed? I don't know. Docs don't say.

Even if randomness is solid, there's the temporal gap. Proposers and committees know their roles before acting. A few seconds where network control could force reshuffles. Network jitter becomes an attack vector.

Not saying this is a weakness. But trust stops being about stake percentages and starts being about milliseconds.

If I'm not selected for a round, I never really know what happened. I trust a handful of nodes I'll never meet.

So if most nodes never see raw validation data, is security about stake distribution—or about how confidently I trust a random beacon I can't audit in real time?
