I went into Dusk thinking its privacy story was mainly about hiding transaction data.
The more I looked at the architecture, the less that explanation worked.
The interesting part isn't simply that Phoenix can support confidential transactions. It's that privacy is treated closer to the transaction model itself, rather than as a layer added on top of a transparent blockchain.
That changes the question
On a conventional public chain, visibility is the default and privacy is something you try to construct around it. With Dusk, the design starts from a different premise: not every participant needs to see everything.
But that immediately creates another problem.
A financial transaction can be private without being exempt from rules. Someone may still need to prove eligibility, satisfy compliance requirements, or disclose specific information to an authorized party.
That's where I think Dusk gets more interesting.
Privacy isn't necessarily about making information inaccessible. It can be about making disclosure conditional.
The part I hadn't considered was how much this changes the architecture: instead of asking, “How do we hide this transaction?” the system has to ask, “Who actually needs to know what?”
I'm still not sure how well that model scales across increasingly complex financial workflows.
But it made me rethink @Dusk_Foundation
