Was messing around on the Dusk explorer earlier today and got stuck on one line — 231 Moonlight txs vs 21 Phoenix (shielded) in the last 24h.$DUSK @Dusk built its whole pitch on privacy-preserving settlement, and the live ledger says roughly 92% of activity right now is the public, transparent side.
Total was 252 txs, 48,457 all-time, 9.9% failure rate, avg fee 0.0136 DUSK. Small numbers, sure, still early network — but the ratio is the thing that stuck. Moonlight (account-based, fully visible) is apparently just... easier. Cheaper mental overhead, plugs into exchange compliance flows without friction, no note-management or view-key juggling. Phoenix, the actual shielded UTXO model — the part that makes Dusk "Dusk" — sits there as the minority path.
Kind of flips the marketing order in my head. Privacy isn't the default behavior, it's the feature you opt into once you've already decided you need it. Makes sense operationally — institutions want the audit trail first, confidentiality second — but it's a different story than "privacy-first L1."
Not knocking the design, dual models exist for a reason. Just wondering at what point (if ever) that ratio flips, or if Phoenix stays the niche lane forever while Moonlight quietly becomes the real product.
