The more I think about Dusk, the more the architecture makes sense.
At first, “modular” can sound like just another blockchain buzzword.
But looking at how Dusk separates settlement from execution, I think there is something more practical happening here.
DuskDS handles the foundation — consensus, settlement and data availability.
Then comes DuskEVM, giving developers an Ethereum-compatible environment where DUSK is the native gas token.
And DuskVM takes a different route, allowing Rust/WASM smart contracts to execute directly on the Dusk L1.
The interesting part is that these environments are not isolated islands.
Assets can move between layers.
That changes the way I think about blockchain architecture.
Instead of forcing every application into the same execution environment, Dusk is creating a system where different workloads can use the environment that actually fits them.
EVM compatibility for existing Ethereum developers.
Rust/WASM for applications that want another execution path.
And DuskDS underneath, providing the settlement foundation.
To me, this is where “modular” becomes more than a technical term.
It becomes a design philosophy:
Separate the jobs, optimise each layer, but keep the ecosystem connected.
And for a network focused on regulated financial infrastructure, that flexibility could become increasingly important.
