Digging into Dusk (@DuskFoundation) and $DUSK this week, one detail kept nagging at me more than the MiCA talk or the NPEX headline number. The default path into the ecosystem isn't the privacy layer the whole pitch is built on — it's DuskEVM, deploy with Solidity and Hardhat, same as any other EVM chain. The confidential stuff, selective disclosure, the zero-knowledge machinery that's supposed to be the actual point of #dusk , shows up as something you add once your app "needs" privacy, almost like an optional plugin rather than the foundation. So the easiest onramp for a builder today looks identical to building on any generic chain, and the compliance-grade privacy that gets top billing in every deck is the extra step, not the starting one. I don't think that's dishonest, exactly, just revealing about sequencing: familiarity ships first, differentiation ships as a layer on top, and adoption probably follows whichever one is easier to reach for at 11pm with a deadline. Makes me wonder how many apps on DuskEVM will ever bother reaching for the privacy module at all, or whether "privacy-preserving" ends up describing the chain's marketing more than its median deployed contract.
