I spent a good chunk of last night deep-diving into the Dusk documentation 🕵️♂️, trying to wrap my head around how Moonlight and Phoenix actually fit together 🧩.
🔘At first, the separation seems pretty straightforward ✨:
* Moonlight 🌐 is the transparent, account-based side where standard accounts track public balances and nonces.
* Phoenix 🛡️ is the shielded, note-based side. It relies on recipient public keys, value amounts (capped at 2^{64}-1), and random scalars 🔢.
Notes sit inside a Merkle tree 🌳 so you can prove inclusion privately, and spending requires both a zero-knowledge proof 🔐 and a nullifier to stop double-spends 🚫.
The part where I got totally stuck, though, is the bridge between them 🌉—moving funds back and forth via deposits and withdrawals.
While the ZK circuits handle the validation \checkmark, I couldn't find a clear answer on the security hand-offs 🤝: if a conversion somehow gets malformed ⚠️, could it mess up the global nullifier set or throw off the transparent balances that smart contracts depend on 📉?
