I initially assumed Dusk Network was simply another privacy-focused Layer-1, built around the obvious idea of keeping financial activity confidential. But the more I looked at it, the more interesting the real question became: what does privacy actually mean when you’re building for financial applications?
Dusk approaches this through its Layer-1, the Confidential Security Contract (XSC) standard, and confidential smart contracts. That made me look at privacy differently. It isn’t just a feature added to the chain. It is connected to how contracts are designed to work when the information behind a financial application needs to remain private.
What I find interesting is the distinction between confidential smart contracts and a standard specifically built around confidential security contracts. That suggests Dusk is thinking about confidentiality as part of the underlying rules for financial applications, rather than something developers have to add later.
But there’s another side to this. More privacy can also make trust harder to judge. If users can’t see certain information, they have to place more confidence in how the system’s rules are designed and enforced.
For me, that makes Dusk’s bigger question more interesting than simply “Can it keep data private?”
Can financial applications become meaningfully confidential without making trust harder to understand?
