Dividend income from the S&P 500 has fallen to 1.04%, its lowest level in history.

But investors need not worry because:

1. 56.5% of S&P 500 companies still pay a dividend, barely changed in 25 years.

2. The Mag 7 either pay small dividends or none at all. Their growing weight in the index pulls down overall yield.

3. Companies are choosing buybacks over dividends to support share prices.
