The Five Extra Seconds That Saved Me From a Fake Token
Almost swapped into a lookalike token once. Right name, right ticker, right logo, everything lined up perfectly. What actually stopped me was a habit I'd only just picked up — checking the one thing that genuinely can't be copied instead of the things that can.
🧩 Master contract vs everything else
The master contract is the token's actual identity — supply, admin, mint status, metadata. Holder wallets just track individual balances. Pools, routers, regular wallets — none of them are the token itself. An explorer should explicitly label the address as Jetton master, not just show a matching name.
📊 Why this trips people up on TON
Anyone can deploy a branded copy on TON — there's genuinely no gatekeeper stopping it. Searching by ticker alone means multiple matching names can surface at once, side by side. Selecting by address instead of name is what actually prevents grabbing the wrong one by accident.
🔄 What I actually do now
1. Copy the full master address from an official source
2. Confirm it matches a second independent official source
3. Paste it into STONfi's search, compare name and image against it
4. Read every single label — Fake, Honeypot, Taxable all mean something specific
5. Open it in a TON explorer — check admin, supply, holders, history
6. Match the swap quote against what my wallet actually shows me
⚠ What a clean address doesn't tell you
Correct address only ever solves identity risk. Admin powers, mintability, and actual liquidity depth are still completely separate questions, and none of them get answered just by confirming you've got the real contract in front of you.
My honest take: verifying the address is the floor here, not the entire checklist.
Would a Suspicious or Taxable label actually make you pause automatically? 👇
