I almost sold my Bitcoin in 2018.
Not because I lost faith in it. I was just tired of watching it do nothing while everything else in my portfolio was out there working — earning yield, staking, whatever. My @BTC- just... sat there. Like a trophy I wasn't allowed to touch.
I remember my buddy telling me that's literally the point of @bitcoin . It doesn't move, that's why it's worth something. Cool, sure. Didn't make it feel any less frustrating watching it collect dust while I chased yield everywhere else with money I honestly trusted a lot less.
I didn't sell in the end. But I also never really stopped wanting more out of it.
So when I first heard about @BabylonLabs_io , I kind of rolled my eyes, ngl. Another "stake your Bitcoin" thing. Every version of that I'd seen before meant wrapping your BTC into some token, bridging it somewhere, trusting a custodian with it — basically taking the one asset I never worry about and bolting a bunch of new risks onto it.
Turns out @BabylonLabs_io isn't that. My Bitcoin doesn't go anywhere. It stays right where it's always been, under my own keys, on the actual Bitcoin chain. What actually moves is just a proof —a timestamped record that gets anchored onto Bitcoin itself, saying "yeah, this stake is real and locked." Other networks trust that proof. Not my coins, not some bridge, not a company somewhere holding my funds.
My buddy was right that @bitcoin not moving is the whole point of it. I just didn't get that "not moving" and "not useless" could be the same thing.
Still haven't sold that @bitcoin . But now it doesn't feel like it's just sitting there for nothing anymore.
