Today, many builders are asking a different question: can users have privacy without giving up security, compliance, or usability? That's where COTI has gradually found its place.
COTI began as a payments-focused project and has evolved into a programmable privacy layer for Web3. Its recent work centers on Garbled Circuits technology, allowing developers to build applications where sensitive information can remain encrypted while transactions are still verified on-chain. The goal isn't secrecy for its own sake. It's giving users and institutions more control over what they share and when they share it.
What I've found most interesting is that COTI isn't treating privacy as a separate niche product. Private ERC-20 tokens, the Privacy Portal, and Nightfall for enterprise-focused privacy all point toward the same idea: privacy should be usable, programmable, and selectively auditable when necessary.
There's still work ahead. Privacy infrastructure only matters if developers adopt it, applications remain reliable under growing demand, and regulatory expectations continue to evolve alongside the technology. Those questions can't be answered overnight.
