ngl when i first read about @BabylonLabs_io Trustless Bitcoin Vaults i just assumed “self custody” meant ur btc sits there n u can pull it out whenever u want, simple as that. thats basically how i think about a cold wallet so i figured vaults work the same.

turns out im kinda wrong lol. ur btc does stay locked directly on the bitcoin chain thru a timelock script only u control, no bridge no wrapping, thats the real part. but when u actually want out (the unbonding period), theres a window where ur funds are mid unlock n u dont have full instant control yet. its still non custodial (no one else can touch ur coins, no operator can run off with them) but its not the same as “instant access whenever” like i assumed at first.

so now im tryna figure out where the actual line is between “trustless” and “instant liquidity”, cuz those feel like two diff promises that ppl kinda mash together when they talk about btc defi.

genuinely curious what everyone else thinks tho

is TBV self custody the same thing as instant liquidity, or are we mixing up two diff features
